Motorcycle rider killed after crash with dump truck

The freedom of riding a motorcycle is felt by millions across the country. Ask an avid rider, and there is nothing like the feeling of floating across the road. Motorcyle use has grown substantially with gas prices reaching record highs, and the increase of traffic on Houston highways.

Crash risks increase during Memorial Day weekend

With the holiday weekend approaching, it is estimated that more than 30 million Americans will take to the roads between Thursday and Monday. Memorial Day weekend is one of the busiest holidays of the year, and with increased traffic on the road, the risk for accidents increases as well. 

Drowsy driving still a problem

There's an unspoken downside to living in a caffeinated society. Sometimes, drivers may fall asleep behind the wheel. Indeed, most tired drivers make it to their destinations safely. Others take the time to get off the road for that much needed nap. Unfortunately, some drivers cause car accidents and leave tragedy in their wake.

Distracted driving deaths go unreported

Distracted driving has been a national issue over the last four years. It has garnered enough attention that Oprah Winfrey started a national pledge for drivers to put their phones down behind the wheel. Also, Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood has lead initiatives prohibiting commercial bus and truck drivers from using cell phones while driving.

Urban sprawl may be bad for pedestrians

The growth in Houston and its surrounding suburbs has been unprecedented in recent years, even with the decline in the residential and commercial real estate markets. With such growth comes additional vehicular traffic, and city planners have addressed this with redesigned streets.
