Man struck by car while crossing street in Houston

If you spend a considerable amount of time walking in a busy, urban environment, you are probably familiar with some of the risks that pedestrians face on a daily basis. Unfortunately, it is not very surprising to hear about auto accidents in Houston that involve pedestrians. To prevent future injuries and deaths, every driver should be aware of pedestrians at all times.

One example of these types of incidents involves a man who was recently struck by a vehicle while crossing a street in downtown Houston. The pedestrian reportedly suffered minor injuries and was released from the hospital shortly after the accident. Local law enforcement has not yet released the name of the man who was hit.

The driver of the vehicle was a city police chief. He claims he was driving responsibly and did not notice the pedestrian. It is unlikely the chief will be ticketed, according to law enforcement union officials. When it comes to this crosswalk, pedestrians do have the right of way. Drivers are often only prosecuted if they were acting in a negligent manner. Regardless of the situation, the police chief said that the accident highlights how important it is for people to be aware of the threats that pedestrians face while crossing busy streets in downtown Houston.

Pedestrians who are struck by vehicles often face a number of challenges. In addition to personal injury, they might have difficulty paying expensive hospital bills. Additionally, when these accidents are fatal, families sometimes struggle with losing a loved one and funeral costs. When someone is struck by a car, talking with an attorney might be helpful.
