Texas festival goers struck by suspected drunk driver

Even though most drivers understand how important it is to always obey traffic laws and be vigilant when behind the wheel, car accidents involving a negligent driver continue to appear in the news. In Houston and throughout Texas, a number of factors can increase the likelihood of auto accidents, such as poor road conditions and crowded festivals. Sadly, these incidents can result in personal injury and loss of life, which is why it is so important for people to always drive safely.

According to a law enforcement official, an officer who belonged to a drunk driving task force attempted to stop a vehicle at roughly 12:30 a.m. in Austin. Next, the suspected drunk driver took off at a high rate of speed and drove down a one-way road. After turning on to Red River Street and smashing through a barricade, he struck a number of South By Southwest festival goers.

He continued to drive down the street, hitting many people who were waiting in line outside of a club, a moped and a taxi. The driver attempted to take off on foot before an officer used a stun gun to stop him. The accident claimed two lives and caused at least 23 other people to suffer injuries, five of whom are critically injured.

Texting and driving, inclement weather and operating a vehicle when intoxicated or tired can all lead to an accident. Regardless of the cause, these accidents can cause significant pain and suffering for those involved and their families as well. On top of the physical and emotional difficulties, financial issues can ensue as well (medical expenses, funeral costs, and so on). If you are going through this, talking to an attorney could be beneficial.
