Realizing the prevalence of truck collisions

From pedestrian accidents to car collisions caused by intoxicated drivers, the details surrounding a traffic crash can vary significantly from one case to another. However, semi truck accidents are particularly perilous and happen far too often. Furthermore, too many Americans continue to lose their lives and suffer devastating injuries in large truck collisions and it is very important for everyone on the road to understand just how widespread these collisions are in Houston, Texas, and across the entire nation.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a total of 330,000 large trucks were involved in a traffic crash during 2012. Sadly, these accidents claimed 3,921 lives and caused 104,000 people to become injured in a truck accident. To make matters worse, these figures represent an increase in the number of people injured in large truck accidents when compared to 2011, in which 88,000 people were hurt. The number of fatalities in 2012 also rose in comparison to the year before, when 3,781 people passed away in large truck crashes.

On the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's website, additional statistics on large truck accidents are published. The FMCSA reports that in 2012, nearly two out of every three fatal large truck accidents occurred on a rural road. Additionally, most deadly large truck accidents took place during weekdays. Clearly, large truck accidents are extremely dangerous and these collisions keep happening at a frightening rate. In order to try and prevent truck crashes from ruining even more lives, all drivers need to keep these risks in mind when they are on the road.
