Reviewing fatal motor vehicle accident statistics

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were more than 30,000 fatal motor vehicle accidents across the country in 2013. Although this number represents a decline in the number of fatal accidents when compared to some of the previous years, such as 2005 when there were more than 39,000 fatal crashes, the numbers are still very alarming and represent scores of lives that could have been saved had drivers been more responsible. In Houston, Texas, and across the United States, fatal motor vehicle accidents remain a serious problem and drivers should focus on safety at all times.

On the Texas Department of Transportation's website, alarming statistics are published which reveal just how many people have died in a motor vehicle crash in Texas. In 2014, these accidents resulted in more than 3,500 deaths in the state, a 3.7 percent increase from the year before. Furthermore, an estimated 1.42 deaths occurred for every million vehicle miles that were traveled.

Fatal wrecks continue to turn families' lives upside down and create numerous hardships. After a deadly motor vehicle accident, those dealing with the loss of a loved one may struggle with a considerable amount of emotional pain. To make matters worse, they may also face financial difficulties due to funeral costs or the loss of a source of income.

Although moving forward may seem incredibly difficult, people who have experienced this devastation firsthand should explore all avenues and may want to consider legal action if a negligent driver was responsible for the accident that claimed the life of their family member.
